takes me to the subway
Ooh, take me to the subway
It ain't far away, but the night is mine, like it fine, gonna stay
Subway by Bee Gees from the album Children of the World, 1976
Bypass, Chapter 2: for the exhibition designed by Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, we developed the content for a video installation focused on the metro networks of four Italian cities: Rome, Milan, Naples, and Genoa. The story is told through two alternating styles: a realistic 3D simulation showing the arrival at a metro station in one of the cities, and an animated infographic that visualizes data on the evolution of traffic and public transport systems over the last century. The entire experience is displayed on two large screens, each about 2 meters tall, offering an immersive, life-sized perspective.

An exhibition dedicated to the mobility systems that are transforming large cities and feature different types of infrastructure: underground and overground systems, public lifts and funicular railways. Urban transport systems used mainly for the movement of people and only partially for the movement of goods.
The focus is on the most significant national cases (Milan, Naples, Genoa and Rome) which introduce specific techniques to solve contextual problems.

NAPLES: Naples is an example where the geomorphology of the territory strongly constrains the development of bypasses.

ROME: In Rome, work on the metro began in the 1930s for the E42 Universal Exhibition. The line proved particularly useful for subsequent sporting and religious events, including the Rome Olympics of 1960 and the Extraordinary Jubilee of 1966.

GENOA: We developed a “arcade” insight on Genoa’s specific issues and the different solutions devloped to adapt to its territory marching underground, suspended and funicular railways connected by lifts, stairs and narrow roads.
